ITALY AND SIERRA LEONE COMPARE NOTES ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SUSTAINABILITY AND STRENGTHENING BILATERAL RELATIONSHIP.

As a support system to the vision of H.E Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio’s agenda on food sufficiency and sustainability and to further propagate the Hands Off Our Girls Campaign message to the world, First Lady Madam Fatima Maada Bio was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture Forestry Food Security, Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim to Rome, Italy on Monday 14th June 2021.

The delegation led by the Italian Consul to Sierra Leone, Renato Callista was received by the Ambassador/ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Organization, Dr.M’Baimba Lamin Baryoh at the Milan Malpensa Airport and were warmly recieved by the hosting organization.

The hosting team started with a Press Conference in the morning hours of 15th June 2021 at the Hotel Modo, discussing with potential Farm investors on investment projects in Sierra Leone and how both countries can share best practices in terms of Soil Fertility and production mechanism.

The the Italian Consul to Sierra Leone, Renato Callista officially welcomed the First Lady, Minister of Agriculture and their delegation to Italy, while they look forward to having an interacting and learning discussions in the coming days.

First Lady thanked the Italian team for inviting the Sierra Leone delegation, as Food Security and Sustainability is at the heart of President Bio and it is his vision to see Sierra Leone become a self-sufficient country that will not only provide food for itself but for Neighboring sister countries like Guinea, Liberia and Ivory Coast in the ECOWAS region.

The Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security, Dr Karim while responding to the questions posed by investors, narrated about the vast landscape and rich soil in Sierra Leone and the transformation the leadership of President Bio has made in the Agriculture Ministry, while hoping that the deliberations will lead to investment projects that will benefit the two countries.
