Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Her Excellence Fatima Maada Bio on Friday 16th April 2021 donated baby food items, hygiene kits and footwear to pregnant women and mothers that were recently affected by a fire outbreak at Susan Bay east of Freetown.

While donating the items, the First Lady sympathised with the women, saying it was a sad moment for the people of Susan’s Bay, but we should be thankful no life was lost.
Empathising with the women, Her Excellency said the government was ready to assist those affected by the fire. She thanked the community leaders and all those supporting the victims.
Welcoming the First Lady, Director General of the National Disaster Management Agency, Lt. General Rtd. Brima Sesay, told the gathering that the President had been in constant communication with all concerned to monitor the welfare of the victims and the support being given to them. He said they immediately updated the First Lady after the fire incident that a total of 7,093 people, 1,597 family households and 254 makeshift structures were affected.
Speaking on behalf of the victims, the local chief at Susan’s Bay Community, Pa Alimamy Kamara ll, expressed appreciation for the visit, adding that such a gesture was a great source of relief, considering what they had endured. He thanked the First Lady and her entourage and all who had helped them, especially the security forces who ensured lives were not lost during the fire incident.
