First Lady Calls for Poverty Eradication through Education.

The first Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E Fatima Maada Bio has called on girls at the Makeni St. Joseph’s Convent for Girls to eradicate poverty in their homes through education.

She made this call during her visit to the school compound, marking the first provincial launch of Hands off our Girls Campaign.

While addressing pupils, the First Lady encouraged them to embrace the Free Quality Education that was introduced by the Bio-led Government, stating that it was a tool to eradicate poverty in their homes.

“When you are educated you make the difference, when you are educated you are empowered and enlightened, when you are educated you are definitely assured to have a future and security with your life,” she said.

She maintained that the Free Quality Education was aimed at empowering all children, especially girls and she pleaded with them to embrace the opportunity in making their lives better.

H.E the First Lady Fatima Maada Bio expressed excitement that the girls had embraced the Hands off our Girls campaign, pointing out that if the campaign succeeded it would be for the benefit and protection of girls in Sierra Leone.

She furthered that marriage should not be a priority in their lives and that it would come at the right time. She concluded by calling on the pupils to fully take advantage of the opportunity of the Free Quality Education to transform their lives.
