I have personally decided to be pro-active in getting solutions for the problems of Sierra Leone.
“Sierra Leone is one of the countries with the highest maternal, newborn, and child mortality rates, as well as adolescent fertility rate globally.”
– WHO 2017
.
Keeping it simple; we have too many children dying before they celebrate their first birthday. Mothers are dying due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth. It hurts to know that most of these mothers are teenagers.
.
Social and economic poverty is the main cause. Symptoms include lack of access to funds and infrastructure, lack of medical professionals, illiteracy and high level of teenage pregnancy . Teenage mothers usually give birth to underweight babies.
.
Accepting the present situation as “normal” is not acceptable. This attitude must change. It is time to be resourceful , we must protect our children and our mothers.
.
I have a social responsibility to reverse this state of affairs on a national level. I do not have the resources required, but I have the resolve and resourcefulness.
There are NGO’s doing a great job in Sierra Leone, and I praise their gallant work under great financial constraints .
.
The fact is, our children are still dying at a rate that I personally will not accept in this country. We need to do more.
.
Most organisation I have engaged with all complain about not having enough resources. To deal with this major issues head-on, we have to be resourceful. I am ready to think outside the box, we must achieve more, from the resource we have.
