Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, united with other African First Ladies at the 28th Ordinary General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). The Assembly, hosted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, revolves around the pivotal theme: “Educate Her and Transform Africa: Enhancing access to health and education for the 21st century’s African women and girls.”

The Assembly commenced with a closed-door meeting, where the First Ladies engaged in productive discussions about the organisation’s progress, setting the stage for the official opening ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, February 18, 2024. This gathering serves as a crucial platform to underscore the interconnectedness of education and health outcomes, emphasising their impact on sustainable development across Africa.

With OAFLAD, First Ladies will continue to champion impactful interventions in the areas of health and education, aligning with the organisation’s goals and existing African Union initiatives. By dedicating 2024 to education and health in Africa, OAFLAD will re-galvanise its efforts towards achieving international and continental objectives in these vital areas.

Beyond the closed-door discussions, the First Ladies enjoyed a luncheon and a unique Ethiopian fashion display, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening continental ties.

Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio’s participation reflects Sierra Leone’s unwavering commitment to advocating for and collaborating on issues that empower women and girls across Africa.
