Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady of Sierra Leone has successfully participated in the Global Empowerment Meeting at Harvard University on the 1st of May, 2024.

According to statistics made by โ€œWomen and Hollywoodโ€ over 50% of cinema and movie theatre consumers are women, contributing immensely to the Billion dollar global film industry. Therefore, women must be given fair opportunities to thrive in the film industry as moviemakers and actresses. However, the appalling reality is that women are often victimized and marginalized by male directors and industry tycoons, leaving no space for women to become independent masters of their crafts and various art forms in the marketplace, after not allowing them to make the equitable profit deserving, of their contributions in the market place.

โ€œDuring my acting days, I chose not to sell my body for movie roles, and today, I stand as the First Lady of an entire nation. I want to leave a legacy of freedom from sexual crimes against women and girls in Sierra Leone.โ€ Dr. Fatima Maada Bio strongly mentioned, during her statement on the panel, signifying her dedication to changing harmful narratives against women and girls in Africa and the world.

This event marks the prestigious academic institutions’ attempts to break international barriers and stereotypes about women and girls in the global professional filmmaking landscape. In attendance were impact makers from around the globe including Harvard alumni and representatives from non-profits on the global stage.

On the panel were the award-winning Hollywood actress Ashley Judd, Smriti Kirin, and moderator, Asim I. Khwaja

Her excellencyโ€™s presence at this event stands as a testament to her outstanding contributions made in her home country, Sierra Leone, toward public health awareness, diversity, and the protection and preservation of humanity’s dignity.
