First Lady of Sierra Leone Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has provided financial and administrative support to the female advocacy group known as Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) as well as full tuition scholarships to seventeen (17) members of WIMSAL. The donations were made on behalf of the newly registered INGO, the ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and they are part of HOOG Foundation’s initiatives aimed at supporting girls and women to reach their full potentials.

In this case, the HOOG Foundation is enhancing WIMSAL itself as well as the 17 female media practitioners who have now benefited from fully funded tuition scholarships to pursue various tertiary educational opportunities.

In addition to the scholarships, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio donated 80 million Leones to be applied towards paying for an office space for WIMSAL thus demonstrating her commitment to empowering diverse women in the media sector in Sierra Leone. This gesture was particularly significant, as it addressed a longstanding challenge faced by the organisation.

During special moments of mentorship that she spent with WIMSAL ladies today, the First Lady emphasised the importance of education and encouraged all the 17 beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity. She further advised them to take care of their physical and emotional well-being and to not allow themselves to be mistreated. She urged them to always stand tall and with confidence as women.

Eastina Taylor, the president of WIMSAL, expressed gratitude towards the First Lady for her support. She appreciated the scholarships provided and acknowledged the First Ladyโ€™s ongoing collaboration with the organization.

The WIMSAL president highlighted how beneficial this support is, especially for WIMSAL members who are single mothers. She spoke of Yvette, one of the beneficiaries who has three children and struggled to afford everything on her own. The assistance provided by the First Lady has not only supported Yvetteโ€™s education but has also alleviated some of her financial burdens.

During the vote of thanks, Haja Mariama Bangura, one of the beneficiaries expressed her gratitude towards the First Lady and further mentioned that she no longer had to worry about paying fees. She promised that all of them will make the First Lady proud by achieving excellent results in their various educational disciplines of study.

This presentation serves as a testament to the First Ladyโ€™s dedication to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bioโ€™s Big Five Game Changers. It highlights the importance of investing in education and empowering women so as to transform Sierra Leone.
