Her Excellency the First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has distributed over 7,000 (seven thousand) free sanitary pads to school going girls in Kono District

The distribution was done at the Koidu Town Mini Stadium on Monday, 6th February, 2023.

Handing over the pads, Her Excellency First Lady Dr. Fatima Bio admonished the schoolgirls to be focused in their studies and do all they can to make the district proud.

The First Lady revealed that “when you are educated as a woman, it helps change your life and your community.”

She admitted that the free sanitary pads are to help retain girls in schools, especially during their menstural period. She admonished the girls to use the pads properly, as they are safe, protective and last for one year.

She appealed to the school authorities to continue to focus their attention on the girls so as to ensure they get the best education.

Speaking on behalf of the Conference of Principals, the Chairman Mr. Ibrahim Sahid Koroma expressed their thanks and appreciation to the First Lady and her husband for providing the free sanitary pads for school girls in Kono District and in other regions in the country.

He assured the First lady of their unflinching support towards the Hands of Our Girls initiative.

In her address, the Elder Sister to the First Lady Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden called on the schoolgirls of Kono to emulate the steps of Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, by embracing their education.

She described what the First Lady is doing for school, girls in this country as exceptional and mind-blowing,

” I am APC but I believe in what the First Lady is doing and I will continue to support her; the pads are given to every girl irrespective of your family’s political affiliation or tribe” she said.

Hon. Rebecca Yeisam explained to the pupils that she is the first female Member of Parliament in Kono District all because she is educated, and not because she is beautiful.

The ceremony was climaxed with performances from Sierra Leone’s finest musicians, Star Zee, Rap G, and Queen.
