Today, the esteemed First Lady of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, warmly received the contestants and management team of the African Young Voices (AYV) Miss University 2024 pageant, at her office in Goderich.

The AYV Miss University 2023/24 Pageant is an annual talent and empowerment platform, organised by AYV and Africell, in partnership with NUSS and Eminence Africa. This year will feature nine university reigning queens, representing various universities across Sierra Leone, and will be held at the prestigious Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown on 26th April 2024.

The meeting served as a platform for the First Lady to engage with the contestants, emphasizing the significance of youth empowerment and female leadership in the nation. Her Excellency reaffirmed her dedication to supporting initiatives that foster education, empowerment, and gender equality among young women in Sierra Leone. “A queen is not about lipstick or driving an expensive vehicle, but about serving your people well,” she emphasized.

Throughout the meeting, contestants shared their aspirations, hurdles, and innovative ideas for advancing societal progress. Encouraging them to become catalysts for positive change, the First Lady urged the contestants to pursue excellence in both their academic endeavors and personal growth.

The session concluded with outgoing AYV Miss University, Mariam Konneh, expressing profound gratitude on behalf of the contestants and management for the unwavering support and encouragement from Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio from the previous years.

This engagement underscores the First Lady’s relentless commitment to cultivating an environment conducive to the empowerment and success of young women throughout Sierra Leone.
